Seasonal Yin Series: Late Summer

Starts Sep 5
40 British pounds
Mello Studio

Description

Tune into nature's rhythms and harness the power of the 'fifth season'. The earth element rules over Late Summer and is concerned with stability, abundance and caregiving. It's corresponding meridians are the Spleen and Stomach systems, and our focus on these organs can generate greater awareness around what we physically and mentally ingest. Our yin sequence targets the connective tissues around our centre, allowing energy to flow unhindered: 'Knowing how to treat the centre is knowing how to bring all networks into balance' - Ming Dynasty (AD 1368-1644) In our 3 hour practice, expect a little joint-freeing qi gong movement, an extended deep stretch sequence and grounding yoga nidra (a type of meditation accessed through states of relaxation). What is yin yoga? Yin yoga is a calming yet powerful practice where postures are held for minutes at a time, rather than a few breaths. The connective tissues of the body (your network of fascia) can carry tension, stress and emotional histories. We might experience this as a congested shoulder, hip flexor or sore lower back. Through methodical, informed and sustained stretching and compressing, we are able release these blockages. It is a challenging but rewarding exercise for the body and mind which can transform how freely we move and think. Class sizes are limited - a small, friendly group so that you are given the individual attention you deserve, modifications will be offered if you are working with body quirks/injuries. Teas and sweet treats provided.
